Excello, a South Korean Heat DX company, has recently announced the successful implementation of a real-time surface temperature monitoring system for Tuyere Stock at an integrated steel mill in Korea.

Excello owns more than 20 S. Korean and international patents and offers innovative solutions to major production facilities of Korean and Japanese steel companies like POSCO, Hyundai Steel, SeAH Changwon Specialty Steel, and others.

Tuyere Stocks are equipment that are designed to blow air at temperatures reaching up to 1400°C into the inside of a blast furnace. However, during furnace operation, the high temperatures, pressures, and vibrations generated could potentially cause safety accidents arising from equipment damage or deformation.

The conventional method of measuring the temperature relied on workers directly measuring the temperature of the outer shell of the high-temperature equipment (tuyeres), which exposed them to potential risks. It was not feasible to measure the temperature inside the equipment.

Given the nature of the equipment and the existing measurement methods, it was extremely challenging to secure access to narrow spaces between equipment or measure temperatures at the back, as well as accurately track and monitor temperature changes and trends across the entire facility.

The newly developed system, which was successfully implemented at the steel mill this time is the application of Excello-developed ‘Surface Temperature Sensor.’

This system has resolved previous challenges that workers faced, as they can now remotely monitor surface temperature changes and trends on both the inner and outer surfaces of Tuyere stocks in real-time.

With access to reliable data extraction, analysis, and utilization for high-temperature equipment, the steel mill can now optimize equipment usage through big data analysis of factors such as energy loss rates, temperature, and corrosion. This new system enables the steel mill to make informed decisions based on real-time data, leading to increased efficiency and productivity.

Park Seung-jae, the CEO of the company stated “We have developed a real-time surface temperature monitoring system that allows for monitoring of temperature information both inside and outside high-temperature equipment in real-time. We view the successful implementation of this system as a catalyst for the smart factorization of the steel industry, operating in extremely high-temperature environments.”
